The arrests came days after a group of white boaters attacked a Black captain of a riverboat cruise on Saturday. Allen Todd, 23, and Zachary Shipman, 25, were in custody with the Montgomery police as of Wednesday, the police said, and each was charged with one count of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. A third man, Richard Roberts, 48, turned himself in on Tuesday and was charged with two counts of third-degree assault. The three men, all of whom are white, have posted bail, officials said.

A personal chef to the Obama family died over the weekend after he was seen struggling in the water while paddleboarding near the former first family’s home on Martha’s Vineyard, the Massachusetts State Police said on Monday. The body of the chef, Tafari Campbell, 45, of Dumfries, Va., who was visiting the Vineyard, was found just before 10 a.m. Monday about 100 feet from shore in Edgartown Great Pond in water about eight feet deep by the Massachusetts Environmental Police. It had deployed sonar from a boat during an hourslong search that began Sunday night and involved several law enforcement agencies. Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama were not home at the time of the accident, the state police said. An investigation into the death of Mr. Campbell, who had worked as a sous chef when the Obamas were in the White House and stayed on with them afterward, is being conducted by the state police and the Edgartown Police Department.

This week, the actors Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced their divorce after seven years of marriage. Ariana Grande and her husband, Dalton Gomez, also appeared to be on the outs. Fans were trawling the stars’ social media posts, looking for any clue about what was going on — on their ring fingers, in their facial expressions and even in the posts the stars liked. Because dealing with a breakup is one of the most relatable things a star can do. “Breakups are such an identifiable thing,” said Alicia Mintz, who hosts the podcast “Trashy Divorces” with her wife, Stacie Boschma.

Texas A&M University said on Friday that its president would retire “immediately” after fallout surrounding political pushback of a new director of its journalism program because of her work promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. The president, M. Katherine Banks, submitted a letter of retirement late Thursday, the university said in a statement. At least one conservative Texas A&M alumni group, the Rudder Association, said it had filed a complaint about Dr. McElroy’s appointment because of her advocacy work. Dr. McElroy told The Times that the terms of her employment had been revised to offer her a one-year contract. She elected to return to her tenured position at the University of Texas.

Donald J. Trump said on Tuesday that he had received another “target letter” from the special counsel investigation into the Jan. 6 riot, the second time the former president has been notified that he is a target in a federal investigation. A target letter is an official piece of correspondence from the Department of Justice informing a person that they are actively being investigated. A target letter typically provides the subject of the investigation the opportunity to testify before a grand jury but does not obligate them to appear. “I would be very surprised if Mr. Trump were to testify before the grand jury,” he said. Of a minimum 16 grand jurors, at least 12 votes are needed to indict Mr. Trump.

Rachel Hunter could not wait to play her new vinyl recording of Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now.”After waiting weeks for its arrival, Ms. Hunter placed the orchid-colored vinyl with Ms. Swift’s face on its center on her record player, lifted the needle and let it play. But instead of Ms. Swift’s catchy choruses, acoustic guitar and banjo strums, another woman’s voice came out. “I quit seeing people, quit looking at the flakes of flesh and dancing organisms,” an echoing voice said, without music in the background. Maybe there was something wrong with the speed, Ms. Hunter thought, or maybe it was one of Ms. Swift’s notorious Easter eggs. I was by myself,” Ms. Hunter recalled.

Every month, Jimmy Ly usually orders nearly 150 bottles of sriracha from Huy Fong Foods for one of his Vietnamese restaurants in New York City. The sauce opens the richness of a pho broth or adds a blast of heat to a banh xeo, a Vietnamese crepe. Sriracha can “really hit the sweet spot in terms of spice, sweetness, acidity, just that tang.”But a few months ago, supply began to dry up. So he, like some other Huy Fong enthusiasts, bought two large bottles on eBay for $35 each, about five times the usual price, to use at home. For the second year in a row, Huy Fong, the maker of the most popular variety of sriracha, is facing production issues, the company said in a statement this month, because of “a shortage of raw material” with “no estimations of when supply will increase.”
